STL CAPS Featured as Innovative Program

On April 1st, more than 150 legislators, superintendents, board of education members, and educators from St. Louis and surrounding areas attended an annual legislative breakfast hosted by Education Plus, a non-profit educational service agency.  St. Louis CAPS was 1 of 3 programs chosen to highlight innovation that is happening in area public schools.

Dr. Travis Bracht, Affton School District Assistant Superintendent and St. Louis CAPS Founder, delivered a 5 minute Ignite session that illustrated how educators are engaging local business and industry partners in new ways.  New partnerships are formed by changing the conversation.  St. Louis CAPS educators are asking business and industry partners what students can do for them and delivering high-quality, creative solutions that meet their needs.  Dr. Bracht described how local high schools and districts can work together to unlock opportunities for real-world learning for students that go beyond what can be delivered in a traditional classroom setting.  The innovative approach offers CAPS as a new option for juniors and seniors while providing schools with the ability to engage more students in success readiness.

Dr. David Schuler, keynote speaker and past president of the American Association of School Administrators, provided attendees with examples of how schools are redefining student readiness and echoed many of the key experiences that are afforded to St. Louis CAPS students.
